Every summer since 2002, the outside balcony of A Book for All Seasons gets transformed. For five weeks in June/July, twelve 8-12 year-olds descend for a riotous and riveting day camp. It has become so popular that there is usually a waiting list. And in 2005 we added a week-long writing stint for anyone 13-15, so now its 6 weeks long!

The balcony shakes with the stampeding feet of kid mouse, Oobi Doo John, the Lupine Lady, Rufferella, Percy the Pig, Master Fu Who Swallow Sea, I Spy, Stinky Cheese Man, and many more weirdo characters escaped from their books! They make paper with Percy, calligraphy with Master Fu, and spin stories of their own with a visiting author. And then to the water they scurry to jump off logs and be turtles. Every summer since 2002, the outside balcony of A Book for All Seasons gets transformed. In 2007, it became a wordplay café filled with serendipitous language collisions and a whole lot of gobblefunking as we rolled in Roald Dahl and The BFG; in 2006, it became a laboratory filled with mad scientists and bubbling potions; in 2005, it became a place for odd characters read out of books; in 2004, a ship, complete with brig, with a crew of crafty rascals; in 2003, an 'unfortunate place' and a princess' sitting room; and in 2002, a sisterhood gathering porch with pants all over it. For five weeks in June/July, twelve 8-12 year-olds descend for a riotous and riveting day camp where they read, imagine, write, imagine, craft, imagine, swim, imagine, learn some interesting stuff, imagine, and of course, eat. "My favorite part of book camp is saying I don't have a favorite part. It was all awesome," says Moriah Barton, then age 11. It has become so popular that there is usually a waiting list. And in 2005 we added a week-long writing stint for anyone 13-15, so now its 6 weeks long! 2008 promises to be as zany as ever. Keep your ears out and your eyes wide for word of next summer's antics.
