Reading With Rover's mission is to inspire children to discover the joy of reading while developing literacy skills and confidence in a safe environment. Research has shown that reading to a dog can: lower blood pressure; draw attention outward; reduce stress, anxiety, anger and depression; create safety and intimacy; and increase positive expectations. Reading with Rover turns the reading environment into a non-threatening place where children can read for the fun of it, with no risk of being embarrassed.
Parent comments from the Reading With Rover website:
"Wow, was it a hit!!! Nate had a blast. Read to 5 dogs and finished 2 whole books. He was so proud of himself. He talked about the dogs all the way home." — Shay H.
"In the 40 years that I've been involved with education, I don't think I've experienced a more exciting and rewarding program. I had tears in my eyes as I walked around and watched the various children read to these wonderful dogs! I have told anyone who will listen about it! I applaud all of your special efforts to make this so magical!" — Jennifer C.
"I would recommend this program to any parent whether their child loves to read or not, it is just a great experience all around." — Eve P.

With Ann Drew Jackson and Jackson Whole Wyoming, Joan Clark brings us heart-warming depictions of an exceptional (Asperger Syndrome - autistic) 5th-grader, and his blossoming friendships with neuro-typic children. Perceptive, sensitive, and optimistic, these books will engage children from both sides of the spectrum. Joan is a licensed speech and language pathologist living in central Illinois.
"Gripping from the very first word, Joan Clark treats the reader to a charming, heartwarming story of a young man 'coming of age' in terms of people with differences ... and ultimately, himself." — Stephen Shore, board president of the Asperger's Association of New England.
"Jackson Whole Wyoming delivers ... hope with a dose of humor and a dead-on depiction of daily school life for a student with Asperger Syndrome. Joan Clark demonstrates that while communication comes in many packages, friendship remains the universal language." — Leanne Brooks, Richland Community College instructor and parent of a child with Asperger Syndrome.

Ann's heartwarming, encouraging, breakthrough novel, Running for My Life, portrays the challenges teens confront when they have to protect themselves from a guardian. Fourteen-year-old Andrea struggles to accept that her previously loving mother has vanished into a disease, schizophrenia, possibly forever. With courage and the support of friends and family, Andrea searches for salvation through running, overcoming the unimaginable in this frank and fearless story.
"Ann Gonzalez [presents] Andrea's tough story with honesty, grace, hope and even humor. The crisp writing and authentic voice immediately drew me in but it was Andrea herself — as well as her good friends — that captured my heart ... I will be thinking about Andrea for a long, long time." — Kirby Larson, Newbery Honor Book author.
Ann currently teaches the craft of writing to middle- and high-school students. To learn more about Ann's writing classes and publications, visit http://www.anngonzalez.com.
