"Stop Making Sense: Using Subtext in Dialogue", with Kay Kenyon
Dialogue in fiction is hard to get right. Readers have a finely tuned sense for false notes. One of these sour notes is dialogue that's too obvious, lacking in nuance, and devoid of earned emotion. In Kay Kenyon's workshop "Stop Making Sense: Using Subtext in Dialogue" we'll learn the pitfalls of making too much sense: the beginner's error of spot-on dialogue. We'll look at how subtext can up the ante in your fiction. We'll come away with a new respect for buried truths, game-playing, bald-faced lies, and other ways to avoid saying what you mean, thereby revealing the truth.
Pricing: The workshop with lunch, including a copy of Kay's new release: Book Three of The Entire and the Rose Trilogy in hardcover, City without End, — $44.00.
The workshop and lunch, including a copy of book 2, A World Too Near, — $33.00.
Or the workshop and lunch, including a copy of book 1, Bright of the Sky, — $33.00.
Kay's been earning a living writing since she was eighteen—when she got her first TV copywriting job. She had an early career acting in TV commercials. The time came to decide whether she was an actress or a writer. To put this to the test, she wrote a novel. That clinched it. Her first novel, The Seeds of Time, was published by Bantam in 1997. It's still in print. The book is science fiction as are the next five novels. Her current series is SF with a fantasy feel.
From 2:00 - 4:00PM Kay Kenyon will be at ABFAS to sign her The Entire and The Rose trilogy.
